ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 11, 2026—On Monday, Sept. 14 at 12:30 p.m., Montgomery County Council President Natali Fani-González will hold a briefing to provide a preview of Council activities this fall including deliberations about the future of Montgomery County’s waste disposal system, infrastructure needs in the County and potential funding options, and economic development issues and opportunities.
On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Council will continue its ongoing discussions about the future of Montgomery County’s waste disposal system, including the Dickerson Resource Recovery Facility, and assess options for managing trash over the coming decades. Several Council meetings are being scheduled to evaluate the environmental, financial and community impacts of each potential approach to this once-in-a-generation decision.
Councilmembers will also begin considering recommendations from the recently published Infrastructure Funding Workgroup Report. The purpose of the Council workgroup was to recommend strategies and equitable, predictable and sustainable funding mechanisms for growth-related needs in the County. The report evaluates the funding required to maintain existing community infrastructure and provide new capacity investments for schools, transportation and parks to accommodate future growth. The Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee will hold a work session on the report on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Additionally, Council President Natali Fani-González will highlight upcoming issues in the Economic Development Committee, which she chairs. Some topics include efforts to strengthen economic development and the visitor economy to enhance the quality of life for residents through tourism.
The Council president’s briefing is open to the public and will be held in the Potomac River Conference Room located on the sixth floor of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville (directions). The Council president’s briefing will be recorded and posted on the Council’s Facebook (@MontgomeryCountyMdCouncil) and YouTube (@MoCoCouncilMD) pages following the meeting.
