Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will be joined by Montgomery County Council President Natali Fani-González, Rockville Mayor Monique Ashton, and other elected officials and community members for a September 11 community remembrance.
This ceremony will honor and commemorate the more than 2,900 victims of the deadly attack - including 11 residents who lived in Montgomery County - and the courageous first responders who charged forward to rescue victims.
The event takes place in the small memorial park, which consists of 11 benches, each dedicated to one of the residents. The County’s 9/11 Memorial Park is open to the public and is a place to reflect and pay respect. It is located at the corner of East Jefferson and Maryland Avenue in Rockville.
The benches are engraved with lines from a poem, song or thought, selected by family members. In one corner of the park stands a small, three-columned stainless-steel pavilion with two round columns into which a book listing the names of those lost is built.
