Metro Announces Closures Over Martin Luther King Jr. Day Weekend – MocoFeed

Metro Announces Closures Over Martin Luther King Jr. Day Weekend

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, January 10, 2024

Due to Maryland Department of Transportation-Maryland Transit Administration Purple Line project construction, Red Line Metro service will be impacted on Saturday, Jan.13 through Monday, Jan. 15, with no train service between Takoma and Forest Glen stations. Free shuttles will be provided where stations are closed, between Takoma, Silver Spring, and Forest Glen.

The Red Line Silver Spring Metro station will be closed. Red Line Metro rail trains will operate in two segments: between Shady Grove and Takoma, and Forest Glen and Glenmont.

While the state managed Purple Line work is unrelated to Metro, the closure will allow Metro to perform tunnel leak mitigation, replace rail ties, and complete switch maintenance.

Additionally, Metro will have closures along segments of the Blue, Orange and Silver lines between Foggy Bottom-GWU and Arlington Cemetery/Clarendon to complete planned infrastructure repairs and maintenance. Rosslyn and Court House stations will be closed, and free shuttle buses will provide service between all affected stations.

Metro notes that customers traveling through the work zone should expect significant delays and allow at least 30 minutes of additional travel time.
