MCPS Future-Ready Plan Off to a Promising Start with Q1 Gains

Posted on December 17, 2025

MCPS presented the district’s baseline data for all performance metrics defined in the MCPS Future Ready: Fiscal Years 2025–2030 Strategic Plan and Quarter 1 (Q1) progress for the 2025–2026 school year to the Board of Education on Dec. 11, 2025.

This year marks the first full implementation cycle of the strategic plan, which outlines the collective commitment to ensure that every MCPS student graduates prepared to thrive.

The data encompasses performance across the four strategic goals: Academic Excellence, Future Ready Graduates, Positive, Safe, and Effective Schools, and High-Quality, Diverse Workforce.

Together, these data points help us measure growth, guide decisions and identify both areas of strength and places where additional support is needed. They also ensure we remain transparent and accountable as we move through the first year of the plan.

Key Highlights from Q1
  • Math proficiency is progressing for secondary students.
  • Chronic absenteeism has decreased across the district.
  • More students, staff, and guardians completed the climate survey providing meaningful feedback about feeling welcomed, supported, and valued.
  • More than 50% of teachers who serve in 3 or fewer stars rated schools are National Board Certified as measured by the Maryland School Report Card.
Ongoing Updates

This is the first of three quarterly progress monitoring reports for the 2025–2026 school year and will guide data- informed actions. We will continue to share updates in Q2 and Q3, with a final year-end report that will represent the full results from the first year of the new strategic plan.
