Four MCPS students represented Maryland at the National Mathcounts competition in Orlando, Fla. Mathcounts is a national program that provides middle school students the opportunity to participate in live contests alongside and against their peers. Each state and territory is represented at the national competition by the top four competitors from its state competition. This year, all four top scorers in Maryland were from MCPS — Joanna Liu, 8th grader from Takoma Park Middle School, James Wang, 8th grader from Cabin John Middle School, and Angie Zhu and Jing-Kai Fu, both 7th graders from Herbert Hoover Middle School. Their coach was Sarah Manchester, teacher at Takoma Park. Maryland had one of its best performances ever, ranking fourth of 57 teams.
