Gaithersburg, MD – Marc Yamada was sworn in as the 18th Chief of Police for the Montgomery County Department of Police in a ceremony attended by his wife and two of his four children.
Chief Yamada was sworn in by Karen Bushell , Clerk of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, in the presence of Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and several members of the department’s executive staff.

Having served most recently as the Assistant Chief of the Field Services Bureau, Chief Yamada brings 35-years of experience to the role and a commitment to public safety. He succeeds Chief Marcus Jones, who retired after 38 years of dedicated service to the department.
“I am deeply honored and privileged to serve as the Chief of Police for Montgomery County,” Chief Yamada expressed following the ceremony. “I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the community and my colleagues, and I look forward to continuing our department’s mission of ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.”
