Keep Halloween Safe and Fun in Rockville
October 1, 2026
Halloween falls Saturday, Oct. 31, bringing back trick-or-treaters to Rockville neighborhoods. The city does not set hours for trick-or-treating.Â
The Rockville City Police Department offers these safety reminders:Â
For trick-or-treaters:Â
- Travel in groups and stay in familiar, well-lit areas. An adult should accompany young children.Â
- Set a safe route and time to be home.Â
- Choose costumes that fit well and do not block vision. Carry a flashlight or glow stick and add reflective material to costumes or bags.Â
- Have an adult inspect all treats before children eat them.Â
For drivers:Â
- Slow down and stay alert in residential neighborhoods. Watch for children entering the street or crossing between parked cars.Â
- Turn on headlights and use extra caution when backing out of driveways.Â
For residents handing out treats:Â
- Clear walkways and steps, and keep outdoor areas well-lit.Â
- Keep pets secure and consider battery-operated candles instead of open flames.Â
