Rockville’s trash and recycling collections may be impacted by this week’s high temperatures.
To protect crews, collection services may be adjusted or suspended as conditions change. Residents should have carts the evening before collection day as crews may be out earlier than usual.
Crews may take longer than usual to complete their routes due to high temperatures. Crews may also end routes early, take mandatory rest breaks or pause collection if temperatures become unsafe.
How Rockville protects crews in the heat:
- With a heat index between 90-99 degrees, crews take a minimum 10-minute cool-down break every two hours.
- At 100 degrees or higher, crews take a minimum 15-minute cooldown break every hour.
- Employees are encouraged to hydrate, wear heat-appropriate gear and monitor for signs of heat-related illness.
