Fugitive Wanted for 2010 Murder Extradited from Mexico

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 26, 2023

Gaithersburg, MD – Jorge Rueda Landeros, the murder suspect who fled to Mexico after allegedly killing a Bethesda woman, has been extradited to Montgomery County.

Rueda Landeros was wanted in connection to the 2010 homicide of 52-year-old Sue Ann Marcum, an American University accounting professor.

Rueda Landeros, now 53-years-old, is accused of killing Marcum in her home in the 6200 block of Massachusetts Avenue on October 25, 2010. The Medical Examiner determined Marcum’s cause of death to be blunt force trauma and asphyxiation.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division learned that Rueda Landeros had a personal and financial relationship with Marcum and determined that following the homicide, he fled to Mexico, or Central America.

On April 15, 2011, evidence collected from the crime scene identified Rueda Landeros as a suspect and detectives obtained an arrest warrant the next day, charging him with first-degree murder.

In December 2022, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) – Baltimore Field Office received information that Rueda Landeros was likely living in Guadalajara, Jalisco where he worked as a yoga instructor under the name Leon Ferrara.
