Fifty-Six-Year-Old Man Arrested in Connection with Series of Commercial Armed Robberies

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested 56-year-old Carl Otis Lowery, of Silver Spring, in connection with a series of commercial robberies that occurred in Montgomery County and surrounding jurisdictions.
The investigation by detectives revealed that on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Lowery entered a Chipotle located in the 10500 block of Connecticut Ave. After Lowery ordered food, he displayed a handgun and demanded that the employee open the cash register. When the employee failed to comply with his demands, Lowery left the scene.
At approximately 8:51 p.m., on the same day, Lowery entered Advanced Auto Parts located in the 2280 block of Bel Pre Rd. in Silver Spring and requested assistance to locate a specific item. After he was shown the location of the item, Lowery approached the counter, displayed a black handgun and demanded cash. Lowery then ordered the employees to the back of the store before leaving the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On February 4, 2025, at approximately 7:18 p.m., Lowery entered a Montgomery County Liquor Store located in the 11400 block of Georgia Avenue, walked up to the counter, displayed a handgun, and ordered the employee to open the cash register. Lowery then stole an undisclosed amount of cash and left the business.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified Lowery as the suspect.
Additionally, investigators determined that Lowery was linked to multiple armed robberies in surrounding jurisdictions during January and February of 2025.

An arrest warrant was obtained, charging Lowery with multiple counts of armed robbery and related charges.
On Thursday, February 13, Lowery was located and arrested on Atwood Court in Silver Spring.
Lowery has been transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is currently being held without bond.
