Detectives Investigate Veirs Mill Road Auto Theft; Surveillance Photos of Suspects Released

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating the theft of a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that occurred on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in the 11600 block of Veirs Mill Road in Silver Spring.
Detectives have released surveillance photos of the two suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them.
Evidence showed that the two suspects were walking through the parking garage at the Wheaton Mall when they stole a red Hyundai Elantra. They broke the driver’s door handle and then drove away in the vehicle, which was later recovered in the 1900 block of Independence Avenue SE in Washington, D.C.
Surveillance footage provided detectives with descriptions of the suspects.
- Suspect one is described as a Black male in his late teens, approximately 5-feet, 8-inches tall, with a medium build. He was wearing gray sweatpants, white socks with white slip-on sandals, a black winter jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, and was carrying a black Under Armour backpack.
- Suspect two is a Black female in her late teens, approximately 5-feet 7-inches tall, with a medium build and long hair. She was wearing multi-colored pajama bottoms, gray fuzzy boots, a black sweatshirt with “America” on the sleeves and was carrying a Kuchen & Bag.1980 cross body bag.
