Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in Silver Spring. The decedent has been identified as 35-year-old Moussa Diarra of Springdale, MD.
At approximately 9:53 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of University Boulevard East and Colesville Road for the report of a collision.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that a white 2013 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on University Boulevard East when, for reasons still under investigation, it struck a guardrail, a curb, two trees and a utility pole, all located on the left side of the roadway. The Chevrolet then overturned and struck the rear of a white Acura RDX and a white Ford Escape that were stopped at a red light at the intersection of westbound University Boulevard East and Colesville Road.
The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Chevrolet was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The drivers of the Acura and Ford did not report any injuries.
