For Immediate Release: Monday, February 24, 2025
Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division are investigating a series of armed robberies at gas stations in Gaithersburg and Germantown. They have released surveillance photos of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.
On Thursday, February 20, 2025, at approximately 11:15 a.m. and 11:46 a.m., an unknown male suspect committed armed robberies at the Liberty Gas Station in the 600 block of S. Frederick Ave. and the Sunoco Gas Station in the 19200 block of Frederick Road.
The investigation revealed that the suspect entered each gas station, picked up items, and approached the register. He then pulled a large kitchen knife from his coat, pointed it at the cashier, and demanded money from the register. The suspect fled both scenes shortly after with an unknown amount of cash.
On Sunday, February 23, 2025, at approximately 8:45 p.m., 6th District officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Exxon Gas Station in the 7900 block of Muncaster Mill Road.
Detectives determined that the suspect entered the gas station and purchased a pack of gum. After pretending to leave, he reappeared near the counter with a large kitchen knife and attempted to stab the cashier. The cashier was able to hide behind the counter and lock the door. The suspect fled the scene without taking any money.
After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives believe the same suspect is responsible for all three gas station robberies.
The suspect is described as a White/Hispanic male, 5-feet, 8-inches to 5-feet, 10-inches tall, weighing 170 to 190 lbs., wearing a large black coat, a blue knit hat, a white/black button-down shirt, and red/black sneakers.
