Detectives Investigate Columbia Pike Hit-and-Run Fatal Pedestrian Collision

For Immediate Release: Monday, January 12, 2026

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian that occurred on Monday, January 12, 2026, near the intersection of Columbia Pike (Route 29) and Fairland Road. Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicles involved.

 

At approximately 6:39 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area for the report of a pedestrian struck.

 

The investigation has revealed that an adult female was hit multiple times in the roadway by the drivers of at least two separate vehicles. 

 

The two vehicles believed to be involved are described as a maroon Toyota Tacoma, model years between 2016–2023, and an older-model orange Ford Crown Victoria. Both vehicles left the scene after the collision.

The pedestrian, a 73-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Additional information, including the name of the decedent, will be released following proper notification of next of kin.
