Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that resulted in the death of 62-year-old Saijuan Chen of Rockville.
On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at approximately 7:21 p.m., officers responded to the area of Arctic Avenue and Bel Pre Road for the report of a pedestrian struck.
The initial investigation has revealed that Chen was crossing Arctic Avenue when she was struck by the driver of a green 2023 Jeep Wrangler, who was making a left turn onto Arctic Avenue from Bel Pre Road.

Chen was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, where she was later pronounced dead.
Following the collision, the driver of the Jeep left the scene.
A citizen witnessed the collision and was able to provide responding officers with a description of the striking vehicle and the license plate.
Officers quickly located the striking vehicle and the driver.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this fatal collision.
