Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police- Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
At approximately 12:32 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Arcola Ave. at University Blvd. W. for the report of a single vehicle collision.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the driver of a silver 2020 GMC Sierra was driving south on Arcola Ave., when for reasons still under investigation, left the roadway, hitting multiple trees, near the intersection of University Blvd. W.
The driver, 43-year-old Peter Kostas Axarlis, of Rockville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
