County Executive Marc Elrich to be Joined by MCPS Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor to Highlight Progress Made on County’s Climate Action Plan and Importance of Environmental Engagement by MCPS Students

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will be joined by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Dr. Thomas Thomas Taylor to update the community on the County’s Climate Action Plan at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11 at Walt Whitman High School.

In the annual report covering Fiscal Year 2024 the County continued its transition to zero-emission buses and expanded recycling programs to help reduce the waste we have to discard. The report includes advancements in clean energy, microgrid projects and building performance standards.

The update also acknowledges efforts in environmental justice and emphasizes the role of young people in combating climate change, highlighted by the inclusion of Leadership for Social Justice Academy students in the program.

The report highlights the County’s significant progress in implementing its Climate Action Plan, detailing advancements in clean energy, building performance, transportation, tree planting and more, all aimed at reducing climate pollution and increasing resilience to climate impacts.
