County Executive Marc Elrich & County Councilmembers to Present MHP and Long Branch Business League with $125,000 to Enhance Silver Spring’s Long Branch Business District at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023
For Immediate Release: Monday, June 5, 2023
County Executive Marc Elrich, Council President Evan Glass, Councilmembers Kate Stewart and Natali Fani-Gonzalez will present MHP and the Long Branch Business League with $125,000 to help concentrated areas of small businesses within the County, designated as Place Based Management areas. The event will take place on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at El Golfo Restaurant located at 8739 Flower Avenue, Silver Spring.
The Place Based Management program aligns with the Main Street Approach for communities to assist commercial areas and business districts with goals like unifying, strengthening and attracting new business.
Long Branch is located between Downtown Silver Spring and Takoma Park. MHP and the Long Branch Business League hold several community-based events in coordination with ‘Discover Long Branch’ including the Sip ‘N Shuck, which is happening in Flower Avenue Urban Park later this month. Part of the grant money could be used to help promote the neighborhood’s commercial district and improve the area’s look.
The County Council approved the grant program last year for the FY23 budget. Last fall grant money went to Friendship Heights and North Bethesda. This is the first community to benefit from the second round of grants. Fenton Village, Takoma Park and Rockville East will also benefit from the second round of grants.
