County Executive Marc Elrich and County Department of Environmental Protection to Announce Expansion of Curbside Electronics and Household Battery Recycling Program on Friday, April 4 in North Bethesda

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, April 2, 2025

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is expanding its phase-in of curbside recycling collection services of electronic items and household batteries for residents who receive County-provided recycling collection services. This enhanced service is being phased-in and will be County-wide by the end of 2025.

During the event, County Executive Marc Elrich and DEP Director Jon Monger will discuss the benefits of the enhanced recycling collection service, which will help divert electronic items and household batteries from the waste stream, ensuring they are properly recycled.

The expansion will allow residents to schedule curbside pickups for electronic items and batteries, including alkaline and rechargeable batteries, offering a safer and more convenient way to recycle these materials. The service is part of Montgomery County’s ongoing efforts to reduce the risk of trash fires and reduce waste and recycle more, aiming for zero waste.

WHAT: Montgomery County will host a media event to announce the expansion of its curbside recycling services to include the collection of electronic items and household batteries. The announcement will highlight this service available to County residents with full implementation by the end of 2025.
