Councilmember Will Jawando, Councilmember Kristin Mink and Housing Advocates to Speak on Council Action on Rent Stabilization and Anti-Rent Gouging Protections

On Tuesday, July 18 at 12:15 p.m., Montgomery County Councilmembers Will Jawando and Kristin Mink will hold a press conference related to the Council’s actions on rent stabilization and anti-rent gouging protections.
Councilmembers Jawando and Mink introduced Bill 16-23 – “Housing Opportunity, Mobility, and Equity” (HOME) Act on March 7. The HOME Act set the annual rent increase allowance at three percent, established vacancy regulations and allowed landlords to request increases above the cap on an annual basis. On June 26, the Planning, Housing and Parks (PHP) Committee advanced an amended Bill 15-23 – “Landlord-Tenant Relations – Anti-Rent Gouging Protections” that incorporates several provisions from the HOME Act.
The Council is expected to vote on Bill 15-23, Anti-Rent Gouging, on Tuesday, July 18.
Community advocates and organizations will join Councilmembers Jawando and Mink to provide remarks on the bill and take questions from the media.
