Councilmember Balcombe Wins 2025 Phyllis Campbell Newsome Award – Mocofeed

Posted on October 30, 2025

For Immediate Release: Thursday, October 30, 2025

From the Office of Councilmember Marilyn Balcombe

Montgomery County Councilmember Marilyn Balcombe has been recognized by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement with the 2025 Phyllis Campbell Newsome Public Policy Leadership Award.

The Phyllis Campbell Newsome Public Policy Leadership Award recognizes the work of public officials who work to build a stronger nonprofit sector and a more vibrant community.  Each year, the center recognizes four public officials for this award across the Washington metropolitan region.

“Nonprofit organizations do so much for our community – not only by providing services that may otherwise not be available, but they also contribute so much to our economy,” Councilmember Balcombe said. “Nonprofits provide jobs, purchase goods and services, and lease commercial space. We should do everything that we can to support them and the people they serve.”

Councilmember Balcombe serves on the Council’s Transportation and Environment Committee and the Economic Development Committee. She is also the lead for Workforce Development and is committed to expanding career and mentorship opportunities for all members of the community.

On the Council, her focus remains to strengthen the County’s business climate and bring jobs, services and opportunities to the Upcounty. Learn more about Councilmember Balcombe.
