Council President Fani-González Will Announce Trust Act to Protect Immigrant Communities – Mocofeed

Posted on December 4, 2025

For Immediate Release: Thursday, December 4, 2025

From the Office of Council President Natali Fani-González

A press conference will be held on Dec. 4 at 12:30 p.m.

Montgomery County Council President Natali Fani-González will be joined by Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Police Chief Marc Yamada, community and nonprofit leaders and councilmembers to announce the introduction of the Trust Act on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 12:30 p.m.

The Trust Act would codify existing County policies by expressly prohibiting discriminatory practices by the County against immigrants, limit the use of County resources in federal immigration enforcement, and ensure that County benefits and services are provided to residents regardless of immigration status.

“As an immigrant who came to this country as a teenager and faced the threat of deportation, I know firsthand the fear many families live with,” said Council President Fani-González. “Montgomery County is my home—a place where I’ve raised my family. Here, we believe in treating everyone with dignity, no matter where they were born, the color of their skin, who they love, or the language they speak. This bill reflects those values.”

Fani-González will be joined by CASA Incoming Executive Director George Escobar, 32BJ SEIU Union Representative Francisco Romero, Rabbi Marc Israel representing Jews United for Justice (JUFJ), District Public Defender Sean Mukherjee, Esq., representing the Office of the Public Defender, and Tracy Espinoza, a Montgomery County Public Schools student.

Council President Natali Fani-González will formally introduce the Trust Act on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
