The following is a summary of events regarding a fatal two-vehicle collision involving a white Kia Optima and a blue Toyota Matrix.
At approximately 5:25 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Montgomery County Department of Police 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Clopper Road for the report of a serious collision.
Upon arrival, officers located both vehicles with extensive damage. The driver of the Toyota Matrix sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation determined that the white Kia Optima, reported stolen from a Montgomery County residence several hours after the collision, entered the intersection and struck a Toyota Matrix traveling on Clopper Road.
The Kia was occupied by juveniles ranging in age from 12 to 15 years old. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.
The juvenile driver of the Kia was transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition. The remaining juvenile occupants sustained injuries of varying severity and were transported to several area trauma centers.
A news release will be distributed as more information becomes available, including the name of the decedent following proper notification of next of kin.
