Clear Out the Medicine Cabinet on Drug Take-Back Day
October 1, 2026
The Rockville City Police Department will again offer a safe, free and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicine and pet prescriptions on Saturday, Oct. 24.Â

City police will accept unused and expired prescription drugs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Rockville City Police Station parking lot at 2 W. Montgomery Ave. RCPD officers will be outside with easy drive-up and drop-off access, so there is no need to get out of your vehicle.Â
Only pills and patches will be accepted. Liquids, needles, sharps, syringes, illicit drugs, glass containers and pressurized aerosols, such as inhalers, cannot be accepted. Bring medication in original containers or combine pills in a clear, sealed plastic bag for disposal. Collected medication will be safely destroyed.Â
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a convenient and responsible means of disposal, keeping prescription drugs from potentially polluting drinking water, while educating the public about the potential for abuse or theft of these medications.Â
During the most recent collection in April, 4,306 law enforcement agencies collected 642,410 pounds — 321 tons — of unwanted prescription drugs, including 12,511 pounds in Maryland. Since the program began, it has collected 10,500 tons over 30 national collection dates, including 298,785 pounds (more than 149 tons) in Maryland.Â
For more information about the city’s take-back event, contact Cpl. Ronnie Crowe at 240-314-8974 or rcrowe@rockvillemd. gov. Unused, unwanted or expired medication can be disposed of, with no questions asked, in a prescription drug drop box available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in the front lobby of the city police station. The drop box accepts only pills or patches; no liquids, needles, sharps, inhalers, glass containers or illicit drugs are allowed.Â
