Celebrate Earth Month at the 10th Anniversary of GreenFest on Saturday, April 26, in Wheaton
For Immediate Release: Thursday, April 24, 2025
Residents can end Earth Month on a high note at the 10th year anniversary celebration of GreenFest from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the Marian Fryer Plaza in Wheaton. GreenFest is the largest annual environmental festival in the County and is organized by a coalition of public and nonprofit partners. The festival is free to attend and will feature electric vehicles, music, activities, green businesses and more. The Marian Fryer Plaza is located at 2424 Reedie Drive.
“If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly way to wrap up Earth Month, join us in celebrating the 10th anniversary of GreenFest,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “It’s one of my favorite events of the year. It connects people with valuable resources, from volunteer opportunities and sustainability programs to rebates and incentives for home electrification. Real change starts with knowledge, and events like this help to educate, inspire and empower our community—especially the next generation. I invite everyone to be part of it.”

This year’s GreenFest will recognize environmental heroes who are making a meaningful impact in their communities, including three individuals, a nonprofit organization and a business that have shown outstanding commitment to sustainability.
The recipients of the 2025 Eco Hero awards are:
- Individual Award – Carolyn Gupta
- Individual Award – Carmen Hernandez
- Nonprofit Award – Charles Koiner Farm Conservancy for Urban Planning
- Business Award – Gardenology
- Youth Award – Rose Clemons-Cope
“The 10th year anniversary of GreenFest stands as a testament to the commitment of our community to protect our environment and reach our ambitious climate action goals,” said Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Director Jon Monger. “I am thrilled that we are not only able to make environmental progress year after year but are also recognizing the local heroes making a difference in their communities.”
DEP will have a household batteries drop-off table at GreenFest and attendees can bring their unwanted or no longer useable alkaline batteries and certain types of rechargeable batteries for special recycling. The battery recycling drop-off feature was added to GreenFest to help reduce the risk of trash fires and promote the County’s goal to Aiming for Zero Waste.
GreenFest is offering a commemorative gift to the first 500 people who register online. Attendees must attend the festival to collect their goodie bag. To register for the commemorative gift, learn more about the household batteries drop-off or view the schedule, visit the GreenFest website .
