AARP Recognizes Montgomery County as the #2 Place for Older Adults to Live Among Large U.S. Communities; County Extends Age-Friendly Survey Deadline to Dec. 31 – Mocofeed

Posted on December 19, 2025

For Immediate Release: Friday, December 19, 2025

2025 top places to live for older adults

Montgomery County has been recognized by AARP as the second-best place for older residents to live among communities of 500,000 or more, as measured by the AARP Livability Index. San Francisco was recognized as the top place for older residents among communities of similar size. The achievement validates the County’s 10-year commitment as a World Health Organization and AARP Age-Friendly Community.

To build on this success and ensure continued progress, the County urges residents aged 60 and over to complete the Age-Friendly Community Needs Assessment Survey and has extended the deadline to Wednesday, Dec. 31. Residents over 60 make up a growing percentage of the County’s population, now approximately 22%. This milestone presents an important opportunity to refine the programs that support this highly ranked quality of life.

“Since 2015, Montgomery County has worked to design a more inclusive and supportive environment for people of all ages and abilities,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “Our ranking on AARP’s Livability Index confirms that our investments, from safer streets to integrated services, are working, and we want to ensure we continue to be a community for all. I urge residents to complete the survey so we can be sure the County adapts and benefits everyone through all stages of their life.”

A series of listening sessions has concluded, providing valuable qualitative data to complement the survey results. Take the survey by Wednesday, Dec. 31.
