A Public Meeting on US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit Improvements to be Held on Tuesday, April 8
For Immediate Release: Friday, April 4, 2025

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is hosting an in-person public meeting to discuss improvements to the existing US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services on Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. A project presentation will be held at 6:30 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m.
The in-person, public meeting will be held at Montgomery Blair High School cafeteria, located at 51 University Blvd. East in Silver Spring.
Flash is Montgomery County’s BRT service. BRT is a limited-stop bus service that is gaining popularity in metropolitan areas across the U.S. and worldwide. BRT systems such as Flash are designed to arrive every few minutes, have upgraded amenities, priority traffic light signaling and dedicated lanes where possible.
The US 29 Flash BRT has been in operation since October 2020 between Downtown Silver Spring and Briggs Chaney, with weekday rush hour service to Burtonsville. The improvements are part of a “Phase II” to improve travel time and service reliability. Improvements include the addition of dedicated bus lanes, bus priority at traffic signals, and safety enhancements for pedestrian and bicycle connections.
A recent study identified that median bus lanes from Sligo Creek Parkway to Tech Road would work best along the corridor and the alternative has been selected to move into design.
The public will have an opportunity to view project maps, provide comments, and ask questions of subject matter experts.
The public is encouraged to visit the project website and provide feedback via the online comment form or by email to [email protected] by Monday, May 26 at 6 p.m. Written comments carry the same weight as oral comments. All information provided will become a matter of public record. Public input is encouraged and may influence the final design of the project.
A Spanish interpreter will be on-site.
