A New Brewery Will Open on Saturday, Aug. 19, as Part of the Walkable Silver Spring Brewery & Arts District

For Immediate Release: Thursday, August 17, 2023

The Silver Spring Brewery & Arts District will be adding a new brewery to the walkable area connecting businesses as the Third Hill Brewing Co. has an opening celebration from 1-10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. The Brewery & Arts District was designated by the State of Maryland to improve economic development in Downtown Silver Spring.

Third Hill Brewing Co. will join the already established Denizen’s Brewing Co. and Silver Branch Brewing Company as part of the evolving area.

The Brewery & Arts District is managed by the Silver Spring Regional Services Office with assistance from the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation. The breweries are a part of a larger Arts & Entertainment District that features more than 160 bars and eateries and hundreds of venues, arts organizations, public art and creative enterprises.

The Silver Spring Brewery & Arts District was created by the Montgomery County Commerce Cabinet, which was established by Executive Order by Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich in 2020. The interagency Commerce Cabinet works to share information and form strategic collaborations to support economic development projects and activities.

As part of its Silver Spring downtown initiative, the Commerce Cabinet established the Brewery & Arts District, coordinated funding from Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and received a Federal appropriation supported by Congressman Jamie Raskin. The special funding assists with infrastructure, marketing and economic development in the revitalization efforts.

MCDOT and Silver Spring Urban District have recently completed a Safe Streets Initiative, making the sidewalk area in front of Third Hill Brewing Co. more pedestrian friendly. After consulting with the State on design, MCDOT added a knee wall to protect pedestrians from errant vehicles and to allow for open space to gather and sit.

The project is coinciding with the grand opening of Third Hill Brewing Co., which is in the former AstroLab Brewing location place at 8216 Georgia Ave. The celebration, which is open to the public, will feature live music, giveaways and a “christening” (in lieu of a traditional ribbon cutting) at 2 p.m.

Nearby parking is available at the Bonifant-Dixon Garage, which is located at 1101 Bonifant St.
