One day before Board of Education votes on how to allocate the $3.7 billion MCPS Operating Budget for FY27, Councilmember Glass says the process is broken

Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass will demand changes to the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) budget process at a press conference on Wednesday, June 3 at 2 p.m.

The Montgomery County Council approved a $3.7 billion total operating budget for MCPS, an increase of $143 million more than last year, yet MCPS had proposed cutting over 400  positions vital to student safety and success. MCPS is scheduled to vote Thursday, June 4, on a proposal that would eliminate a number of social workers, special education resources teachers, EML therapeutic counselors, and other specialized staff who work directly with the school district’s most vulnerable students and families.
