Novavax Leader to Join Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich on Weekly Media Briefing Focusing on Newly Approved COVID-19 Vaccine
For Immediate Release: Tuesday, October 3, 2023
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will host his weekly, virtual media briefing at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 4. He will be joined by Silvia Taylor, an executive vice president for Novavax in charge of corporate affairs and an advocacy officer for the international drug company headquartered in Gaithersburg.
On Tuesday, Novavax cleared the final regulatory hurdle for its COVID-19 vaccine prepared specifically for this fall and intended to combat the XBB variant of the virus. Novavax makes a protein-based vaccine mixed with an immune-boosting chemical which makes it different than other vaccines offered by its competitors. The vaccines have been authorized for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration. They will soon be available nationwide and in our local pharmacies and doctor’s offices.
These media briefings offer reporters a consistent opportunity to reach County officials to discuss how Montgomery County is managing this pandemic and to address the County’s robust public health efforts . These weekly media briefings are held via Zoom. Members of the media who wish to gain access to participate in the calls should RSVP to Tracy O’Connor at tracy.o’connor@montgomerycountymd.gov by 10 a.m. on the day of the briefing and login information will be provided.
RSVP: Login information for the media briefing remains the same from week to week. There is no need to RSVP each week unless you are new to the call.
If you are not a member of the media and/or cannot gain access to participate, the briefing can be viewed live on the County’s Facebook page and County Cable Montgomery at Comcast/RCN Channel 6 and HD Channel 996 or Verizon Channel 30.
