Bolivian-Andean Dance of ‘Grupo Etnia y Tinkus Kay’Sur’ Will Headline Wheaton TGIF Encore Free Friday Fall Concert on Sept. 22

The Bolivian-Andean dancing of Grupo Etnia y Tinkus Kay’Sur will headline the Wheaton TGIF Friday Encore fall concert series on Friday, Sept. 22, at the Marian Fryer Town Plaza, adjacent to the Wheaton Business Triangle and near the Wheaton Metro Station. The performance is part of a month of Friday concerts that join in the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed Sept. 15-Oct. 15.
The event will feature live artist demonstrations and beverages from Twin Valley Distillers. The TGIF party will begin on the plaza at 5 p.m. with a DJ set followed by a live concert at 6 p.m. Parking is available in the building at 2425 Reedie Dr.
Grupo Etnia y Tinkus Kay’Sur seeks to expand, harvest and strengthen the Bolivian-Andean cultural heritage and its traditions through the folkloric dance of Tinkuy.
Tinkuy is an Indigneous Bolivian tradition original to Potosi, Bolivia. The word in the Indigenous Quechua language means “meeting to encounter.”
Grupo Etnia y Tinkus Kay’Sur was founded in Rockville by four Montgomery County immigrant youths. For nearly a decade it has been part of a trademark network of affiliate dancers across the world. Its values are placed in community building and in providing a safe space for multigenerational cultural encounters through the art of dance.
