Major Crimes Investigates Briggs Chaney Road Homicide

For Immediate Release: Friday, January 9, 2026

Gaithersburg, MD – Montgomery County police are investigating the homicide of a 43-year-old Beltsville man Thursday evening in Silver Spring.

On Thursday, January 8, 2026, at approximately 7:45 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services were dispatched to the 3000 block of Briggs Chaney Road for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the body of an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the roadway next to the Exxon Gas Station.  Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Montgomery County Department of Police- Major Crimes Division detectives responded and are investigating the death as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Gavin St. Aubyn Boothe of Beltsville. Boothe was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.

At this time, no suspect is in custody.
