October is National Principals Month. During this month we recognize the dedicated leaders who guide our schools and support students, staff and families every day. To celebrate, we did a Q&A with a few principals around the county to learn more about what inspires them and the impact their role can play in the community. Each principal answered the same set of questions, giving us a glimpse into their leadership, their passions and even a few fun facts along the way.

How long have you been with MCPS?
This is my 19th year with MCPS.

How long have you been the principal at Kennedy HS?
Since July 1st, 2025.

What inspires you each day?
I’m inspired each day by the opportunity to impact students’ lives; not just academically, but by helping them feel seen, safe and valued.

What advice would you give to a first-year principal?
Trust is your strongest tool. Be visible in classrooms, hallways and events. Small gestures, such as greeting students, checking in with staff and calling families, go a long way.

What’s your top win/biggest accomplishment from this past year?
So far, my greatest accomplishment is earning the confidence of the Kennedy community by showing that I listen, follow through and center decisions on what is best for students.

What job did you want to have when you were a kid?
I wanted to be a doctor!

What’s an interesting/fun fact that not everyone knows about you?
That I am an introvert; students are always surprised to learn this about me because they do not see that side of me in my day-to-day interactions.

What impact do you think principals have on the greater community?
Principals are more than school leaders; they are community leaders. Their daily work influences how families engage with schools, how students see their future and how the broader community measures its strength and progress.
