Two Students Arrested Following Lockdown at Northwood High School

For Immediate Release: Thursday, September 11, 2025

Gaithersburg, MD – Two 15-year-old males are in custody after Northwood High School was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon while Montgomery County Department of Police officers investigated reports of a gun on campus.

On Thursday, September 11, at approximately 11:04 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the 11200 block of Old Georgetown Road for a report of a person with a gun. During that time, Montgomery County Public Schools placed Northwood High School in a “secure” status. Officers investigated the call and stopped persons of interest. It was determined that the weapon seen was a toy, and the secure status was lifted and no arrests were made.

At 12:21 p.m., while officers were still on school grounds, a second report was received of a student possibly in possession of a firearm inside the building. MCPS placed the school on lockdown as officers investigated.

School administrators and Community Engagement Officers located two students in a room inside of the building. A gun magazine was observed on a desk near one of the students. During a search, officers recovered a BB gun from one student and found a live 9mm round in the pocket of the other.

One student is charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds. Both are charged with disruption of school operations. Both students were transported to the 2nd District station and released to their parents/guardians.
