Two Suspects Charged in Connection with Kensington Armed Bank Robberies

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have charged 64-year-old Alvin Chun of an unknown address and 62-year-old Ronald Wesley Johnson of an unknown address, in connection with multiple armed bank robberies that occurred in Kensington during February and March of 2025.

On Saturday, February 1, 2025, at approximately 11:19 a.m., a suspect entered the M&T Bank located in the 10400 block of Montgomery Avenue. The suspect approached the teller window and handed over a note demanding money while displaying a revolver. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of money and left the scene.

On Friday, February 7, 2025, at approximately 10:08 a.m., a suspect entered the Capital One Bank in the 10700 block of Connecticut Avenue, displayed a revolver, and demanded money. The suspect left the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and was seen getting in a U-Haul rental van.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at approximately 12:06 p.m., a suspect entered the M&T Bank located in the 10400 block of Montgomery Avenue and directed an employee at gunpoint into the vault room. The suspect removed an undisclosed amount of money before leaving the bank.

During the investigation, in collaboration with MCPD’s Special Investigations Division and law enforcement partners in Prince George’s County and Washington, D.C., detectives identified Chun and Johnson as the suspects. Both suspects are linked to investigations in other jurisdictions.

Johnson was apprehended on Tuesday, April 8, and is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. Chun was arrested on Thursday, June 5, and remains in custody at the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending extradition.

Johnson is charged with two counts each of armed robbery, first-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Chun is charged with three counts of armed robbery, first-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, and one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
