For Immediate Release: Monday, April 21, 2025
Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section, with the assistance from a Good Samaritan, have arrested and charged 46-year-old Isaias Orellana of Silver Spring in connection with a shooting that occurred on Sunday, April 20, 2025, in the 600 block of University Boulevard East in Silver Spring.
The investigation has revealed that Orellana and his friend had an argument with the victim and a group of people at the location. During the argument, Orellana and his friend were assaulted. In response, Orellana pulled out a handgun and racked a live round out of it. Orellana then hit the victim in the head with the gun and fired rounds as he was leaving the scene, headed westbound on Piney Branch Road.
A Good Samaritan called the police after observing Orellana in the parking lot of the apartment complex in the 8800 block of Piney Brach Road. Officers responded to the location and took Orellana into custody. Orellana’s handgun was later recovered at a nearby location.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel treated and released the adult male victim at the scene for a head injury sustained from being struck with the handgun.
Orellana’s friend sustained a laceration to his head and was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Orellana was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, discharge of a gun in urban area and other handgun related charges. He is being held without bond.
