For Immediate Release: Friday, January 17, 2025
Gaithersburg, MD – Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Holiday Alcohol Task Force have arrested an impaired driver after colliding with a police cruiser in the area of I-270 and I-370.
On Saturday, January 11, 2025 at approximately 2:32 p.m., 6th District officers arrived at the location to assist Maryland State Police with a serious traffic collision. The officer parked his police cruiser at the location with his emergency equipment activated, blocking several traffic lanes to allow officers to investigate safely the collision. Shortly after, a black Acura entered the area and rear-ended the police cruiser, causing significant damage. Officers did not sustain any injuries.
Officers approached the Acura and spoke with the driver, who showed signs of impairment. Holiday Task Force officers arrived on scene to conduct an investigation. The driver performed poorly on the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).
The impaired driver was transported to a Montgomery County police station, where he elected not to take the Intoximeter test after he was advised of his rights. The driver was charged with DUI and traffic related charges and released from the station.
