Detectives Investigate Muncaster Mill Pedestrian Fatality; Victim’s Identity Released – MocoFeed

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, near the intersection of Muncaster Mill Road and Norbeck Road.

At approximately 5:37 a.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the pedestrian, later identified as 43-year-old, Earl William Smith of Clinton had been driving a 2012 Ford transit T350, when he collided with a sign, causing the van to become disabled in the median. For reasons unknown, Smith got out of his vehicle and was struck in the roadway by the driver of a 2007 Black BMW 328i, who was traveling eastbound on Muncaster Mill Road, near Norbeck Road. The driver of the BMW remained at the scene.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
