“I want to congratulate Will Jawando on his election as the next Montgomery County Executive. I wish him success as he prepares to take on this important responsibility and lead Montgomery County into its next chapter.
Serving as County Executive for the past eight years has been one of the great honors of my life. I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished to make Montgomery County a more equitable, inclusive, and welcoming community, to protect our environment, expand opportunities for residents, and address the challenges facing families and local businesses. We have made important progress, but there is still much more work to do.
I was an early endorser of Will Jawando because I have confidence in his commitment to listen to residents, understand their concerns, and act in the public interest. Will takes office at an important time for our County. While we have made some great progress, we continue to face challenges that require thoughtful leadership, a willingness to make difficult decisions, and a commitment to making government work for the people it serves. I wish him well as he takes on the responsibilities of leading a County as large and diverse as ours.
My administration is committed to ensuring a smooth and productive transition. County government provides essential services that hundreds of thousands of residents depend on every day, and it is important that this work continues without interruption. I also look forward to working with him in my new role as an at-large Councilmember. I wish Will and his team the very best as they take on the opportunities and challenges ahead.”
