The Montgomery County Council will hold a special commemoration celebrating Montgomery County’s and the State of Maryland’s 250th Anniversary on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. The commemoration will feature special guests including County Executive Marc Elrich, former County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett, Maryland Secretary of State Susan Lee, Maryland State Del. Lily Qi, former Councilmember and CSAAC Director Nancy Navarro, Montgomery History’s Executive Director Matt Logan, Maryland 250 Commission Director Michele W. Johnson, and others.
“Today we celebrate how far we have come in our County and Maryland’s 250 years, carrying the lessons and contributions of those who came before us into the future,” Council President Natali Fani-González said. “As we evolve, we must continue challenging ourselves as a society and use our values to guide us. To honor our 250th anniversary, I encourage all residents to explore the people, places and stories that have shaped our shared history.”

The commemoration will include a Council proclamation and video highlighting different ways Montgomery County is honoring its 250th anniversary and how County leaders are working to share and preserve history.

The commemoration will be held in person at the Montgomery County Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave, Rockville, MD 20850. It will also be streaming live on the Council’s Facebook page, YouTube channel and Council website. Residents also will be able to watch live on television on Comcast/RCN channels 996/1056 Verizon channel 30.
