ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 10, 2026—On Wednesday, September 9, Councilmember and Democratic Nominee for Montgomery County Executive Will Jawando was discharged from The George Washington University Hospital after suffering a heart attack on the morning of Saturday, September 5, 2026, during his regular weekend pickup basketball game.
In a video message shared with constituents today from his home, Councilmember Jawando thanked residents, colleagues, and friends for the outpouring of support, and provided an update on his condition.
“Now that I’m home, I wanted to check in and say thank you, ” Jawando said in the video. “The texts, calls, and prayers over the past few days have meant everything to our family.”
He will spend additional time at home with his wife, Michele, and their children before resuming his full schedule.
The Councilmember also used the message to issue a broader reminder to the community regarding cardiovascular health: “I have a message for everyone out there: take care of yourself. Don’t ignore the warning signs, especially us guys, but ladies too.”
Councilmember Jawando’s office remains open, available, and ready to serve constituents throughout his recovery.
