Her legacy is also evident here in Montgomery County. For more than 50 years, our Commission for Women has carried forward the work championed by Gloria and other feminist trailblazers by advocating for equality, opportunity, safety, and women’s full participation in our community. I appreciate the generations of commissioners, advocates, and residents who have sustained that work.
Gloria Steinem helped move our country forward. She did not shy away from challenging the accepted ways, was willing to ruffle feathers, and spoke the truth even when ridiculed or questioned. The best way to honor her is to recognize how much progress has been made while at the same time continuing to speak up, speak out, and do the work that remains.”
