Weeklong Series of Events from Monday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 11, Will Offer Opportunities for Residents 55 and Older to Stay Active, Connected, and Engaged

Montgomery County will celebrate Active Aging Week from Monday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 11, with more than 50 programs, events, and activities designed to promote healthy, active, and engaged lifestyles for adults ages 55 and older.

The annual celebration is part of an international effort to highlight the benefits of physical, mental, and intellectual activity as people age. Programs and activities will be offered throughout the County and are sponsored by Montgomery County Government agencies and departments, including the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Environmental Protection, Montgomery County Recreation, Montgomery Parks, and Montgomery County Public Libraries. The City of Gaithersburg, community organizations, nonprofits, and hospitals also are participating.

“Being active and staying connected are important at every stage of life, and that becomes especially important as we get older,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “Active Aging Week gives residents opportunities to get out, try something new, meet people, and take part in activities that support their health and well-being. We want Montgomery County to be a place where people can remain engaged in their communities and continue to enjoy full and active lives as they age.”
