Gaithersburg, MD – Montgomery County Department of Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide Unit detectives have arrested 23-year-old Bekine Tibebu Ayele of Burtonsville in connection with the March 2025 homicide of 23-year-old Jonah Kimindu Mutua of Silver Spring.
On March 8, 2025, at approximately 11:04 a.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to the 2700 block of Fairdale Terrace for the report of a shooting. Officers located Mutua suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the parking lot.
Through the course of the investigation, homicide detectives identified 23-year-old Douglas David Lacey as the shooter. Lacey was arrested in April 2025 on the strength of an arrest warrant and remains in custody under indictment for Mutua’s murder.
As the investigation continued, detectives discovered evidence showing that Ayele and Lacey conspired to kill Mutua and that Ayele hired Lacey to kill him.
Ayele has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he awaits a bond hearing.
