Rockville wants to hear from community members as it creates its first-ever economic development strategic plan to strengthen the city’s competitive position and guide sustainable growth.
A community survey, available in English, Spanish, French and simplified Chinese, offers community members an opportunity to share their perceptions of Rockville’s economy; where they go and what they want for shopping, dining and entertainment; their thoughts on the city’s job market, land use and development; and their priorities for the city’s economic development efforts.
The city will also hold three community meetings to discuss the project, including presenting a baseline economic analysis, target industry and opportunity assessment, and implementation framework.

Engaging residents, businesses, institutions, property owners, investors and other stakeholders offers everyone an opportunity to provide feedback on the goals and strategies of the implementation effort and to take part in shaping the plan.
An external working group comprising business leaders and other city economic development partners held a kickoff meeting on Monday, July 20. The city’s consultant presented its baseline analysis and heard from group members about the issues and opportunities shaping economic development in Rockville. While it is not a decision-making body, feedback from the working group will help frame and prioritize actions for city leadership to consider and adopt.
The resulting framework will help the city make strategic decisions that support long-term economic vitality and maximize the impact of public investments.
