Maryland Secretary of the Environment Serena McIlwain will deliver the keynote address on Tuesday, April 16, focusing on Maryland’s Climate Pollution Reduction Plan and emphasizing the crucial partnership between the business community and government in achieving climate objectives at both the State and County levels. County Executive Marc Elrich will address green building successes and opportunities within Montgomery County.

“This year’s Energy Summit comes with the good news that Montgomery County will benefit from the recent EPA announcement of a $27 billion national investment to combat the climate crisis. Through the Montgomery County Green Bank, we will see new funds for clean power projects in low-income and disadvantaged communities, new clean energy jobs and new ways for us to reach our climate goals to cut greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2027 and by 100 percent by 2035,” said County Executive Elrich. “We have already made significant progress since our meeting a year ago—our biggest step being the transmittal of the Executive Regulations to implement BEPS. I am looking forward to continuing this work with our local green building community at this year’s Energy Summit and improving building performance.”

The two-day summit will feature an array of speakers including County Executive Elrich, County Council President Andrew Friedson, County Department of Environmental Protection Director Jon Monger, County Climate Change Officer Sarah Kogel-Smucker and Department of Permitting Services Director Rabbiah Sabbakhan.
